DHL Shipment of Holiday Trees to Lift Off from New York

for U.S. Troops in the Middle East

WHAT: For the sixth straight year, DHL Express has teamed up with the New York community to donate and deliver hundreds of real Christmas trees, menorahs, decorations and messages of support to U.S. troops in the Middle East through DHL’s annual Trees for Troops charitable program

A community event starts at Dees Nursery on Dec 7, followed by an afternoon “send off” event at the DHL facility at JFK International Airport where the shipment will be loaded onto a DHL aircraft. DHL will deliver the trees and holiday items to various U.S. military camps and facilities in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The special shipment will cavalcade through the following route to the DHL JFK Gateway for 12:00 noon arrival.

  • West on Atlantic Avenue Oceanside
  • North on Atlantic Avenue East Rockaway
  • West on Sunrise Highway to North Conduit Avenue (which runs parallel to the Belt Parkway)
  • Left on to Framers Boulevard
  • Right on to North Boundary Road
  • Left on to North Hangar Road to the DHL Gateway
  • Guests of DHL at JFK may park in the main parking lot and check in at security in Building 263.

Tree Loading and Celebratory “Send Off” Event at DHL JFK

WHAT: A procession of local police departments escorting the shipment of Trees, holiday items and thousands of letters for U.S. troops serving in the Middle East arrive at DHL’s JFK gateway to kick off a community “Send Off” event.  The shipment will be loaded by DHL employees, VFW, military and law enforcement personnel, and members of the community.

Members of the media may capture video and still footage of loading of the trees onto a DHL-branded aircraft.  Local schoolchildren will read their letters of the support to U.S. troops.  Entertainment provided by “The Liberty Bells” of the USO of Metropolitan New York

The shipment will be loaded onto a DHL aircraft and will lift off the following morning for Bahrain.  From Bahrain, DHL will deliver trees to various U.S. military camps and facilities in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Representatives from DHL Express and the participating organizations will be available for interviews. Media will have an opportunity to photograph/shoot the shipment of trees and decorations and festivities at Dees Nursery as well as the shipment as it arrives under escort at the DHL Gateway and the loading of the shipment onto the aircraft.
